Having been a photographer in Chicago for over two decades, it is rare for Maria and myself to experience a new “first” at this stage of our careers. When we were hired by Tara & Bryce, we were thrilled not only to capture their big day, but also to be part of the first wedding held at downtown Chicago’s newest hotel-turned-venue, the St. Jane. Located in the historic Carbon & Carbide building, the St. Jane boasts incredible art deco architecture, brushed gold and marble details throughout, the sumptuous decor of 1920s America. It was a pleasure to collaborate with fellow vendor partners Mimi Lopez, Beth Bernstein, Mina Chu Lee, Derrick Joseph Taylor, and Nicole Zenner.
While the day may have been slightly cloudy and overcast, Tara & Bryce truly glowed with excitement and anticipation. Here in Chicago, weather conditions can and often go from perfectly lovely, to omnious, and back to sunny within the span of an hour. We were grateful that the weather held out for us and we were able to spend ample time outdoors free of umbrellas.
The lovely couple relied on their creative team to create a classic look with clean lines along side fun & whimsical details, reminiscent of Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby. The black and white centric color palette came to life against the gilded art deco look of the St. Jane and featured calla lillies, feathered lampshades, and oversized crystal vases. It was truly an honor to capture all of the intimate details of their big day.
