In the middle of peak season it is always tough to schedule “one more thing”, but in the case of Flashes of Hope shoots, it’s one of the most humbling and gratifying experiences. To be able to help these children and their families in some small way, is the least I can do. It really puts life into focus and reminds me just how lucky I am. Some of the children are so energetic and engaging that it’s hard to believe that they are sick, while others are further along with their illness. Flashes of Hope is a nonprofit organization that changes the way children with cancer and other life threatening illnesses see themselves through the gift of photography and raises money for pediatric cancer research. A Flashes of Hope portrait is much more than a picture on the wall. It’s an indescribable treasure that forever preserves the grace, dignity and beauty of each child. I thank these children for the gift they give to me and for letting me document their beauty and joy.
